Spending time together:
When you go for a visit with your loved one in a nursing home or rehabilitation center, do you often wonder what to do with them? How to connect with them? Take a moment to think about them, their interests and what brings them joy. Build your activities around that. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Try doing a craft together. It can be something seasonal, like making some decorations for their room. It could be scrapbooking together as a way to chronicle family memories. It could also be a time to learn a craft from your parent or grandparent. That can be a very meaningful way to spend time together.
You can spend time sharing pictures of family and events, make a bulletin board for their room. You could tell each other family stories, and maybe even record them or write them down in a journal as a special keepsake.
You might want to bond with your loved one over some kind of entertainment, such as a game, a movie, a sporting event, or favorite music. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon together, connecting and making memories.
Another thing that’s fun is to go out to lunch, do some shopping, or just get outside and sit in the fresh air for a bit. The important thing is, to make the most of your time together.
If you need more suggestions, ask the rehabilitation specialist or the recreation specialist at your nursing and rehabilitation care center.
